The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) have 4 operations organisations:

  • Jobcentre Plus
  • Pension Service
  • Disability and Carers Service
  • Child Maintenance Group

Each of these groups serve a different purpose and in a nutshell the name essentially describes what each one does e.g. Jobcentre Plus looks after Jobseeker’s Allowance and decided which claimers receive Employment and Support Allowance. The Pension Service pays the Basic State Pension and provides information on related issues and the Child Maintenance Group operates through the Child Support Agency (CSA) and Child Maintenance Service.

Currently the ministers who look after the DWP are:

  • The Rt. Hon Damian Green MP – Overall Responsibility of DWP
  • Damian Hinds MP – Employment
  • Richard Harrington MP – Pensions
  • Penny Mordaunt MP – Disabled People, Work and Health
  • Caroline Nokes MP – Welfare Delivery
  • The Lord Freud PC – Welfare Reform
